Custom Workwear for Small Businesses: No Minimum Order Required

One of the most common frustrations small business owners face when looking for branded workwear is the minimum order requirement. Many suppliers will not even talk to you unless you are ordering 25, 50, or even 100 pieces. For a sole trader, a small partnership, or a start-up with just a handful of staff, that is completely impractical.

At Xceluk, we do things differently. We have no minimum order — you can order a single embroidered polo shirt if that is all you need. Here is why that matters and how it works.

Why No Minimum Order Matters

You Are Just Starting Out

When you are launching a new business, cash flow is tight and every pound counts. You might only need two or three branded shirts to get started. Being forced to order 50 means either spending money you do not have or sitting on a pile of stock you might not use — especially if your branding or team size changes in the early months.

You Are a Sole Trader

If you work alone — as a plumber, electrician, gardener, personal trainer, or freelance consultant — you do not need dozens of shirts. You might want three polo shirts for summer, a couple of sweatshirts for cooler days, and perhaps an embroidered softshell jacket. That might be six or seven items total. With us, that is a perfectly normal order.

You Need to Top Up

Maybe you ordered workwear six months ago and you have got a new team member, or some items are getting worn. You need two replacement polos and one new fleece. Because we keep your logo on file, reordering is quick and easy — and there is no minimum to meet.

You Want to Test Before Committing

Ordering one or two sample garments with your logo lets you check the quality, fit, and appearance before placing a larger order. It is a smart, low-risk way to make sure you are happy before spending more.

How Pricing Works for Small Orders

We will be honest — there is a per-item cost difference between ordering one shirt and ordering fifty. Embroidery involves a setup process (digitising your logo and loading the machine), and that setup cost is spread across fewer garments in a small order. However, the difference is not as dramatic as you might expect, and for many small businesses, the per-item cost is still very reasonable.

Here is how to get the best value from a small order:

  • Keep your design simple — A clean logo with fewer colours and a moderate stitch count will cost less per item than a complex, multi-colour crest.
  • Choose a single position — Left chest embroidery is the most common and most cost-effective option. Adding back or sleeve embroidery increases the cost per garment.
  • Pick mid-range garments — You do not need the most expensive polo shirt on the market to look professional. Brands like Uneek and Fruit of the Loom offer excellent quality at sensible prices.
  • Combine items in one order — If you need polos, a fleece, and a jacket, order them all together. Even though each is a different garment, having them done at the same time is more efficient.

The Ordering Process for Small Businesses

We have kept things deliberately simple:

  1. Choose your garments — Browse online or call us for advice. Tell us what your team does and we will recommend the right products.
  2. Send us your logo — Any format is fine, though vector files (.ai, .eps, .svg) give the best results. Do not have a logo yet? We can work with you on that too.
  3. Free digital proof — We create a visual mockup showing exactly how your logo will look on your chosen garments. No commitment until you approve.
  4. We produce your order — Typical turnaround is 5-10 working days, depending on the order size and current workload.
  5. Delivery or collection — Free delivery on orders over £99+VAT, or collect from our Haverhill premises if you are local.

Reordering Is Even Easier

Once we have digitised your logo, it stays on our system permanently. So when you need to reorder — whether that is next month or next year — there is no setup fee to pay again. Just tell us what you need and we will get it done. This makes it incredibly cost-effective to order little and often as your team grows.

Real Examples

To give you a sense of what small business customers typically order:

  • A self-employed gardener ordered 3 polo shirts and 2 sweatshirts with a simple text logo — smart, professional workwear for under £100.
  • A small accountancy practice ordered 5 Oxford shirts each for their 4-person team with a discreet embroidered logo on the left chest.
  • A mobile dog groomer ordered a single embroidered softshell jacket and a matching cap as her everyday work outfit.
  • A start-up café ordered 4 embroidered aprons and 6 t-shirts for their opening week.

Every one of these orders was handled with the same care and quality as our largest corporate contracts.
