Custom Workwear for Small Businesses: No Minimum Order Required
Last reviewed: 17 August 2026 · Written and reviewed by the Xcel Print & Promotions team
Ask any small business owner about branded workwear and one gripe comes up again and again: the minimum order. Plenty of suppliers won’t even pick up the phone unless you’re buying 25, 50, sometimes 100 pieces. For a sole trader, a small partnership or a start-up with a handful of staff, that’s just not workable.
We do it differently. No minimum order, full stop. You can order a single embroidered polo if that’s all you need. Here’s why that matters, and how it works.
Why No Minimum Order Matters
You Are Just Starting Out
When you’re launching, cash flow is tight and every pound counts. You might only need two or three branded shirts to get going. Being pushed into 50 means either spending money you haven’t got, or sitting on a pile of stock you may never use, especially if your branding or team size shifts in those early months.
You Are a Sole Trader
Work on your own? A plumber, sparky, gardener, personal trainer or freelance consultant doesn’t need dozens of shirts. Maybe three polos for summer, a couple of sweatshirts for the colder days, and perhaps an embroidered softshell. That’s six or seven items, tops. With us, that’s a completely normal order.
You Need to Top Up
Say you ordered workwear six months back and now you’ve taken someone on, or a few items have seen better days. You want two replacement polos and one new fleece. Because we keep your logo on file, reordering is quick, and there’s no minimum to hit.
You Want to Test Before Committing
Ordering one or two sample garments with your logo lets you check the quality, fit and finish before you go bigger. Smart, low-risk, and it means no nasty surprises before you spend more.
How Pricing Works for Small Orders
We’ll be straight with you: there is a per-item cost difference between one shirt and fifty. Embroidery involves a setup process, digitising your logo and loading the machine, and that setup gets spread across fewer garments in a small order. But the gap isn’t as steep as you might fear, and for most small businesses the per-item price still comes out very reasonable.
Here’s how to squeeze the best value out of a small order:
- Keep your design simple, A clean logo with fewer colours and a modest stitch count costs less per item than a busy, multi-colour crest.
- Choose a single position, Left chest is the most common and most cost-effective spot. Add back or sleeve embroidery and the per-garment cost climbs.
- Pick mid-range garments, You don’t need the priciest polo on the shelf to look professional. Uneek and Fruit of the Loom give you excellent quality at sensible money.
- Combine items in one order, Need polos, a fleece and a jacket? Order them together. Even though they’re different garments, doing them at once is more efficient.

The Ordering Process for Small Businesses
We’ve kept it deliberately simple:
- Choose your garments, Browse online or give us a call. Tell us what your team does and we’ll suggest the right products.
- Send us your logo, Any format’s fine, though vector files (.ai,.eps,.svg) give the best results. No logo yet? We can help with that too.
- Free digital proof, We create a visual mockup showing exactly how your logo sits on your chosen garments. No commitment until you approve.
- We produce your order, Typical turnaround is 5-10 working days, depending on order size and how busy we are.
- Delivery or collection, Free delivery on orders over £99+VAT, or collect from our Haverhill premises if you’re local.
Reordering Is Even Easier
Once we’ve digitised your logo, it stays on our system for good. So next time you reorder, whether that’s next month or next year, there’s no setup fee to pay again. Just tell us what you need and we’ll crack on. That makes it dead cheap to order little and often as your team grows.
Real Examples
To give you a feel for what small business customers usually order:
